Peanut's living quarters

I haven't posted anything in a while, and honestly there's nothing very newsworthy going on in our lives right now. Ted and I have both been pretty consumed with work lately, its a busy time of year for both of us and we've been trying to squeeze in some "us" time when we can, usually with mid-week Starbucks treks at night before bed. Things should ease up in the next several weeks. Ted and I took a walk once in Africa, a couple of miles from this little village to the place where we were staying. It was a weekday afternoon, and it seemed like nobody had any place to be, really. Kids were chasing each other around, women were chatting with each other with their babies tied onto their backs, groups of people were lounging underneath trees, and we heard Bob Marley's "Buffalo Soldier" playing out of someone's little mud house when we walked by (yes, we exchanged ironic looks on that one...). I think about that scene sometimes, when things get particularly hectic at home or work, and I wonder what's happening over on that road sometimes. I suppose in reality our schedules are mostly self-imposed, and I'm thankful for our jobs and the freedom it gives us to do the things we want. I guess I've been reevaluating work lately, with the baby on the way, and I really think our time is one of the most valuable things we can offer. I foresee a rocky adjustment for me when I start to invest my time in our child rather than my job--not because I think its a bad decision but because its just different.
I think it's more real now too because the baby is now finally starting to get "a room of its own." Ted cleared out and painted the nursery a few days ago, a color called Apple that I'll accent with dark brown. My mom is making curtains for the window, using some "throwback" curtains we had while I was growing up and updating them with brown and green borders. I'm really looking forward to putting the nursery together over the next few months, and I don't think it will be as hard to keep it "gender neutral" as I originally thought. We'll see.

Oh, the room looks great already! I know it is so fun to do and makes things seem so real. The little one will love it:) I remember spending a lot of time getting Ty's nursery organized and I would just sit in there in my rocking chair the last few weeks I was pregnant, just dreaming about the baby. Then after he was born, and I spent tons of time in that rocking chair, I just couldn't belive that he was there and real and how special that place was for him. I am going to miss his room the most when we move, since it was the most special one in our little house:)
